Students in the Philadelphia area and the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles can explore all things artificial intelligence at two Mark Cuban Foundation Artificial Intelligence Boot Camps hosted by CSL Behring this fall.
The no-cost sessions for underserved high school students offer college-level instruction on artificial intelligence. Students will learn what artificial intelligence is and what it’s not, how they already interact with artificial intelligence in their own lives and the ethical implications of artificial intelligence.
Participating students will be mentored by volunteer instructors with data science knowledge, including representatives from CSL Behring, a global biotech company that makes medicines for patients with rare and serious diseases. At the camps, teens will have the chance to work in Microsoft Azure, Microsoft's cloud computing platform, to build AI applications related to chatbots, computer vision, machine learning and natural language processing.
The sessions will be held on four consecutive Saturdays in the fall starting on October 22 and ending on November 12. Interested students and parents are encouraged to apply at markcubanai.org/application before September 1.
This is the second year CSL Behring is partnering with the Mark Cuban Foundation to sponsor the boot camp initiative. As a host, the company boasts local connections to this year’s boot camps. CSL Behring’s U.S. headquarters is located near Philadelphia in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. The company also has an R&D hub for cell and gene therapy in Pasadena, California, about 10 miles from Boyle Heights.
Founded by entrepreneur, Dallas Mavericks owner and “Shark Tank” star Mark Cuban in 2019, the AI initiative has hosted free AI boot camps in several U.S. cities. This year’s Boyle Heights boot camp is also being hosted by pop star will.i.am’s i.am.angel Foundation.
