MELBOURNE, Australia – Some awards are bestowed after a career’s worth of accomplishments, but the Association of Australian Medical Research Institutes’ (AAMRI) Rising Star Award seeks instead to recognize and support promising researchers in the early days of their work.

CSL has partnered with AAMRI to sponsor the 2024 Award, which is open to research scientists who are less than five years into their professional journeys (post PhD). AAMRI represents 58 medical research institutes across Australia. The award program debuted in 2023.

“CSL is proud to again sponsor the AAMRI Rising Star Award and support future leaders in medical research,” said CSL Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Andrew Nash. “The award reflects our core values of collaboration and innovation and we are excited to see the career progression of the young researchers who are supported early in their career by this award.”

Worth AUD $35,000, the prize allows the recipient to allocate the funds to their most pressing need, which could be supporting their research, work-related travel, staff salaries, living expenses or caregiving responsibilities.

Applications open 29 July and close 25 August. Learn more on the AAMRI Rising Star Award website.

AAMRI CEO Dr. Saraid Billiards thanked CSL for sponsoring the award and explained its significance.

“The AAMRI Rising Star Award aims to recognise Australia’s emerging research leaders so they may continue thriving in their pursuit to solve the world’s most pressing health challenges. As well as research excellence, this award is as much about celebrating individuals who have demonstrated significant impact, engagement and collaboration through their work,” Billiards said.
