TV shows have covered a lot of medical topics, but never before has a sitcom revolved around someone who needs a kidney transplant and his prospective donor.

That’s the premise of “B Positive,” a CBS sitcom starring Thomas Middleditch (“Silicon Valley”) and Tony-award-winning actress Annaleigh Ashford. The modern day odd couple hasn’t won over every critic, but the show is getting universally good reviews for the way it’s spreading the word about the need for organ donation. A recent post on the show’s Facebook page drives users to a Donate Life registry page.

Inspired by a true donation story, B Positive highlights the hope and the humor that can be found in the most unlikely of places,” the post said. “Be a part of another meaningful story and register your decision to be an organ, eye & tissue donor.”

The show’s creator Marco Pennette knows all about transplants. He needed a kidney in 2013 and a childhood friend agreed to be the donor.
